In 2017, the Central Bank of DPR Korea issued a silver commemorative coin of the National Dog of the DPRK “Phungsan Dog”.
Carved on the central front of the coin is the image of a Phungsan dog. On the upper part of the front are letters reading “National Dog《Phungsan Dog》” (국견 《풍산개》) and on its lower part are letters “Juche 106 (2017)” (주체106 (2017)년).
On the central back of the coin is the national emblem of the DPRK. Seen in the upper part of the back are the letters “The Central Bank of the DPRK” (조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행) and in its lower part are the degree of purity, weight and face value.
The face value of the silver coin is 20 won.
The size of the silver coin is 40 mm in diameter and 3 mm in thickness.
The silver coin contains 31g of 999 silver.
Its mintage is 500 pieces.

National Dog
The national dog of the DPRK is Phungsan dog.
Registered as a natural monument of the country, the dog is native to Kim Hyong Gwon County (the then Phungsan County), Ryanggang Province, in the northern part of Korea. Clever and nimble, it fights its opponents to the last.
It has a slim figure, thick and firm rear legs, and runs fast in an upright position even in a mountainous area.
The eyes are rather small and the pupils are black or ash grey. The ears are small and straight, tilting to the front or sideways. The thick and short neck is well-developed.
The fur is usually white, or sometimes yellowish brown.
The DPRK pays great concern to preserving the pure breed.
