In 1996, the Central Bank of DPR Korea issued a silver commemorative coin to mark the 70th Anniversary of the Formation of the Down-with-Imperialism Union.
Carved on the central front of the coin are the images of the Flag of the Down-with-Imperialism Union ㅌ.ㄷ with letters “1926 – 1996”, the Mt. Paektu, and the shining sun. On the upper part of the front are letters reading “The Workers’ Party of Korea Is the Party of the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung” (조선로동당은 위대한 수령 김일성동지의 당이다) and on its lower part are letters reading “70th Anniversary of the Formation of the Down-with-Imperialism Union” (《ㅌ.ㄷ》결성70돐).
On the central back of the coin is the national emblem of the DPRK. Seen in the upper part of the back are the letters “The Central Bank of the DPRK” (조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행) and in its lower part are the degree of purity, weight, minting year and face value.
The face value of the silver coin is 10 won.
The silver coin contains 1oz of 999 silver.

DIU Formed by President Kim Il Sung in His Teens
During his revolutionary activities at Hwasong Uisuk School in the mid-1920s, President Kim Il Sung made his effort to find a new way for liberating Korea from Japan’s colonial rule.
He explored the genuine path of the Korean revolution, the road of independent development, provided the hard core for it and pushed ahead with the work to form a vanguard organization of the revolution.
He told the young core members sharing the intention with him: We must open up a long and thorny path in order to liberate the country and build a society in which the working people can live happily; if we build up our ranks and fight tenaciously at the cost of our blood, we shall emerge victorious; after forming an organization we should rally the masses behind it and arouse them to liberate the country by relying on their own efforts.
Later, he discussed the name of the organization and its character, fighting programme and norms of activities with them.
Under such detailed preparations, the President formed the Down-with-Imperialism Union (DIU), a vanguard organization of the revolution, with young communists of the new generation on October 17, 1926.
At that time, the President was in his teens.
The immediate task of the DIU was to defeat Japanese imperialism and achieve the liberation and independence of Korea, and its final objective was to build socialism and communism in Korea and, further, destroy all imperialism and build communism throughout the world.
The formation of the DIU was a historic declaration heralding the new start of the Korean revolution.
Since then, the Korean revolution has advanced along the road of independent development with definite fighting target and strategy.
